Hi David.

I got it to work with a local python2.7 installation, putting pymol-1.4.1.win32-py2.7.?exe from http://www.lfd.uci.edu/~gohlke/pythonlibs/#pymol into the unpacked folder of the source: http://sourceforge.net/projects/pymol/files/pymol/1.4.1/pymol-v1.4.1.tar.bz2/download. Then install. Finding pymol gets installed in C:\Python27\PyMOL. Can execute the pymol-launch.py with python2.7. So it works.

I hope you will update you post to this method.

Hi David,

I'm sorry that my guide is not clearly written.

If you follow the link under "this archive" in Step 3 (it directs you here: http://www.jan-gebauer.de/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/setup.zip ) you can download a ZIP-Archive containing only one file: setup.py. Please overwrite the original setup.py file coming with the PyMol sourcecodes (should be in c:/pymol if you followed step 2) with the new one and continue with step 4.

However, having said that. Recently, I found a much easier way. Christoph Gohlke from the University of California compiled PyMol under Windows and does supply it as an installer. You just have to download the right version of Python (from http://www.python.org/ and the PyMol installer (at least this way it worked for me).
You can find his installer here: http://www.lfd.uci.edu/~gohlke/pythonlibs/#pymol

Regards,
Jan

I have a simple problem of understanding (lack of). In step 3 of section "Compiling / Building PyMol" above, I cannot work out what "this archive" refers to. I cannot see two different setup.py files, one of which I am supposed to replace with the other. I see only one file setup.py and it is contained in the only one archive, which is the http://pymol.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/pymol/trunk.tar.gz?view=tar archive mentioned in step 2. What am I to replace with what? - Can you be any more precise?

Thanks for any help.

Regards,
David
